Warehouse Redesign at L-com global connectivity

The project was a resounding success. Throughput capacity increased significantly, and the redesigned layout helped our order picking processes considerably. We hope to work with LoDI again in the future as we continue to grow.

In the summer of 2015, L-Com approached LoDI for help with its North Andover warehouse. The goal was to improve warehouse design and operations without compromising customer service during the execution of the project. LoDI Ph.D. candidate Luis ran to the project.

Luis analyzed the current distribution network and gathered quantitative and qualitative data to perform a systematic assessment of the current state and identify the areas where the most value could be added. This assessment was given to the executive team at L-Com early in the project. Next, Luis made proposals for new inventory control policies, material flow design, and storage systems to achieve space utilization and throughput in the new facility. He then used state-of-the-art mathematical methods to design a new warehouse layout, item slotting strategy, order profile, inventory control policy, storage policies, product allocation, and batching methods for order picking. The final report included the layout (CAD file), workflow and task assignments, head count per area, material handling specifications, and the required investment. In a follow up on the project 2016, he also developed an implementation guide for designed delivered according to the building rented.
